Emma Lyness is a multimedia artist, horticulturalist, and musician based in Seattle, Washington.
Emma’s art is a love letter to Nature, form, color, dreams, and a playfulness of the soul. Organic forms, watercolor washes, poetry, songwriting— all different marks which aim to communicate a reverence for life within the context of our current global ecological crises. The work asks us to take a closer look at the world around us, to watch the water droplet suspended on the wilting flower petal.
Smaller watercolor paintings on paper often serve as studies and references for larger-scale color field paintings on canvas. Her paintings on canvas are primed with a traditional rabbit skin glue and are rooted in plein air landscape painting.
Her music (Flowering Ground) has the same ethos her visual work: let’s forge space for this feeling, let’s create leeway and lyricism to an everyday, ephemeral experience.
